Weekly Photo Challenge: Together

29 Apr

This was taken very early on a work day week.  I looked up and I saw these 2 seagulls on top of a lamp post.

It’s my parents’ anniversary today!  41 years!

Love’s Blessing
Life bestows love’s blessing,
On a very special few.
And I believe it happened,
When life encountered you.
You are a perfect couple,
In a marriage that is blessed;
May your love shine like a beacon,
A guide for all the rest.

Taken on my way home tonight.  I think this definitely fits today’s photo challenge bill.  There aren’t a lot of things more unusual than a My Little Pony toy stuck on the railings near the train station!  It’s really Not My Little Pony Sans Friends!

I love this photo really.

When I found out what this week’s photo challenge was, I knew exactly what photo to post.  It’s a photo of a figure of a man in Hampton Court, just after you pass through the Great Gate House, near the water fountain.  I have no idea who he’s meant to represent because there was nothing posted around him to describe him or describe who he represents.  I did find him very pitiful and such a lonely figure.

If anyone knows who he is, please let me know!

New year, new beginnings

1 Jan

Photos have the amazing ability to hit just the right spot.  I saw this photo via a twitter friend’s Instagram timeline.  What caught my attention was the use of Fleetwood Mac lyrics from the song Dreams caption.  “When the rain washes you clean will know.  A New Year, a new beginning.”  That struck a chord in me.   Thanks C for letting me share this photo on the blog.  You are a star!  The photo and the words just fit.

Take this chance everybody, to reinvent yourself, to better yourself, to get rid of the bad habits, to right the wrong decisions, to forge new paths.  God blessed us with New Years so that we can get do overs…but then again, it’s also important to remember that each morning, His mercies are new, and we are blessed with new chances.

One of my favourite New Year quotes is from William Arthur Ward:

“Another fresh new year is here . . . another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear, to love and laugh and give!
This bright new year is given me to live each day with zest
. . . to daily grow and try to be my highest and my best!
I have the opportunity once more to right some wrongs,
to pray for peace, to plant a tree, and sing more joyful songs.”

Happy New Year everyone!

Thursday Treats

22 Dec

We do gifts in the Philippines.  Well, our office friends get gifts from us.  But I’ve found that people in the UK do cards more.  I thought I’d do something else instead.  I thought I’d do a sweet treat for everyone instead.  So last night, I made Nigella’s chocolate cherry cupcakes.

I didn’t do the chocolate  topping though.  I didn’t have enough time to bake the cupcakes, allow the cakes to cool enough for me to put the the choccie topping on and allow it to harden a little.  I opted for a wintry sprinkle of confectioner’s sugar instead.  I was oh-so-good though.  I didn’t have any of the cake, which I gather was really good.
