Pecan pie! AGAIN!

23 Jul

I just wanted to share a picture of this beautiful pecan pie.  Mainly because I made it (making it has become quite instinctive because I’ve made several now but it always makes me smile when it comes out this beautifully!).  This was taken using an Olympus Pen camera and I think it just brings out the colours.

One of my favourite quotes is from the movie Julie & Julia:

“I love that after a day when nothing is sure, and when I say ‘nothing’ I mean nothing, you can come home and absolutely know that if you add egg yolks to chocolate and sugar and milk, it will get thick. It’s such a comfort.”
–Amy Adams as Julie Powell

Once, I baked for a living (it was a very short stint as a baker, but I loved it when my banana loaves sold out!).  And now, my life is enriched when I bake.  I love the smell of baking pastry.  I love how vanilla wafts through my tiny flat.  I love how, if I do it right, my cake eases out of the pan easily and tastes as good as it smells.  Baking allows me to create something that makes people smile.  And my I can’t stop smiling when my creation looks too pretty to eat!  There is nothing more comforting and more reassuring than a recipe.  If only life were that easy, you follow the directions to the letter, and life is perfect.  Of course it’s not.  I know that well enough.

But it’s reassuring that there are things that don’t deviate if you don’t.

i’ve always wanted to bake… we just don’t have an oven yet. But if we did, I think I’d love creating delicious looking foods like that pecan pie of yours!

Start small. I baked for a living for a few months using a tiny, inexpensive electric oven. As long as you can fit a 9×11 inch pan, you’re in business! 🙂 And the pecan pie is REALLY easy to make! 🙂
